Blikkenwerpers
Blikkenwerpers is een straf participatief kunstproject. Jonge makers krijgen er een plek om kunst te creëren rond een humanistisch thema. Jonge organisatietalenten krijgen de kans om een expo en alles wat erbij komt kijken in goede banen te leiden.
Elke discipline – beeldende kunst, toegepaste kunst, drama, theoretisch enzovoort – en ervaringsniveau zijn welkom. Er wordt elk jaar rond een vrijzinnig thema gewerkt, in 2022 was dit ‘persoonlijke vrijheid’, in 2023 ‘zorg’, in 2024 werkten ze rond ‘grenzen’ en het thema in 2025 is ‘what about time?’.
Naast een expo is er binnen het project ook ruimte voor leuke live activiteiten, denk aan voorstellingen, live muziekavonden, poetry slams, drag shows, enz. Dit nemen ook de organiserende jongeren in handen.
Blikkenwerpers is a participatory art project. It gives young creators a place to create art around a humanistic theme. Young organizational talents are given the chance to create an expo and everything that comes with it.
Every discipline – visual art, applied art, drama, theoretical and so on – and level of experience are welcome. Each year they work around a liberal theme, in 2022 it was “personal freedom,” in 2023 it was “care,”, in 2024 they worked around “borders” and now the theme is “what about time?”.
Besides an expo, there is also room within the project for fun live activities, think performances, musical evenings, poetry slams, drag shows, etc.

31/03: Vernissage (20h00-22h00)
Blikkenwerpers Leuven kicks off! Come see the results of our makers and toast to the artworks at the opening night of our exposition. There will be exclusive live events to celebrate the opening but we won’t spill those just yet.
01/04: spoken word evening & book presentations (20h00-22h00)
Wondering what is going on inside the mind of our makers?
For this special evening you can listen to poetic readings and book presentations while strolling through the exposition at your own pace. You can become immersed through the words of the artists and their unique interpretation of “boundaries”.
02/04: swordfighting demo with Invirtus (17h00-20h00)
On the border between history and present day, between real-life and fiction, we find HEMA — Historical European Martial Arts. Whether you are eager to unleash your inner Witcher or simply curious about how longswords were used throughout history, this demo will surely provide the insights you are looking for!
03/04: What the Drag?! (20h00-00h00)
What the Drag?! makes its debut in Leuven! Join us for a panel discussion where we will discuss the topic of Blikkenwerpers 2025: boundaries in light of queerness. Afterwards you can watch the dragqueens go wild at our incredible show! Drag queens currently being: Fanny darling, Oddess, Trolletita love, Medea, Mike, EVARISTA and Iks Tension).

04/04: live music evening (20h00-22h00)
We open the stage for 2 starting bands: Rooftop & Pear Tree. The concept is simple: we get together to create art and dance on live music. There are no rules, no boundaries, just a fullblown thunderstorm of creative energy.

05/04: workshops by our makers & Flash Tattoos (11h00-20h00)
Various workshops given and created by our artists, from intuitive clay molding to model drawing. During the day you’ll be able to get unique flash tattoos by Zebravis & Patchyskinpokes, inspired by the works in our expo.

Blikkenwerpers Ghent 2025
Wil je deel uitmaken van de ervaring? Voor onze nieuwe expo in Gent zoeken we gemotiveerd organisatorisch talent en creatief creërend talent. Als vrijwilliger van Blikkenwerpers zal je mee de expo vormgeven, organiseer en cureer je evenementen en zal je onze makers gidsen doorheen de ervaring, met de expo in het najaar als climax. Als maker maak je een nieuw kunstwerk binnen het thema ‘What about time?’ in een door jou gekozen kunstdomein. Je mag zelf invullen wat dit thema voor jou zegt.
Wie ben je?
- Je bent tussen 18 en 30 jaar oud
- Je hebt voeling met het thema ‘What about time?’
- Je wil samenwerken met jonge makers
- Voorgaande kennis/ervaring is niet nodig, enthousiasme des te meer
- Je kan je vinden binnen de waarden van het vrijzinnig humanisme
Wat vragen we van jou?
Tijdens het hele proces worden er heel wat samenkomstmomenten georganiseerd. Dit om een community te vormen binnen dit project. De meerwaarde van dit project ligt erin dat je als maker en vrijwilliger samen betrokken bent bij het hele proces. Zo creëer je nieuwe netwerken en kan je je makkelijk inspireren door anderen die hetzelfde proces doornemen als jij.
We verwachten dat jij bij de volgende momenten alvast aanwezig kan zijn: 17/03 om 19u30 (vrijwilligers), 24/03 om 19u30 (makers), 22/04 om 18u (iedereen), 15/05 om 19u30 (iedereen) en 25/06 om 19u30 (iedereen).
Tijdlijn
Maart: opstart makers en vrijwilligers
April: bezoek Blikkenwerpers Leuven
Mei-juli: ontmoetingsmomenten (start creatieproces)
Augustus-oktober: wekelijkse ontmoetingsmomenten (geen wekelijks verplichte aanwezigheid)
September: finaliseren creatie proces
Oktober: opbouw expo 11-12 oktober & 15-26 oktober
November: evaluatie en afronding
Do you want to be part of the experience? For our new expo in Ghent we are looking for motivated organizational and creative creative talent. As a volunteer, you will help design the expo, organize and curate events and guide our creators through the experience, culminating in the expo in the fall. As a maker, you will create a new artwork within the theme “What about time?” in an art domain of your choosing. You get to fill in what this theme personally means to you.
Who are you?
- You are between 18 and 30 years old
- You have a feel for the theme “What about time?”
- You want to work with young artists
- Previous knowledge/experience is not necessary, enthusiasm all the more
- You agree with the values of liberal humanism
What do we ask of you?
Throughout the process there will be a lot of get-togethers. This is to form a community within this project. The added value of this project lies in the fact that you, as creator and volunteer, are involved in the whole process together. This way you can network with others and be inspired by your colleagues.
We expect you to attend the following moments: 17/03 at 7:30pm (volunteers), 24/03 at 7:30pm (makers), 22/04 at 6pm (everyone), 15/05 at 7:30pm (everyone) and 25/06 at 7:30pm (everyone).
